Tyres: Tips & Recommendations
Removing Tar & Gravel from your Tyres
The build-up of tar, gravel and other road debris on your tyres can impair braking distances and traction. Follow these simple steps to help keep your tyres free of this kind of build-up:
- Use a plastic knife to scrape tar from the tyres. Avoid using metal for this as it could damage the tyre and even cause a puncture.
- Where the tar is especially resistant, use a scrubbing brush and some mild detergent.
- Wipe linseed oil onto the tyre and leave it for up to an hour. Once it has soaked in, try scraping with the plastic knife again.
- This can be quite a time-consuming process, but as the tar begins to come off, so will the other kinds of debris start to fall away.
